SoloPower, a provider of thin-film solar photovoltaic cells and modules, has named Dr. Rommel Noufi vice president of research. He will lead the company's research activities in the area of high-efficiency electroplating-based CIGS solar cell technology.

Noufi joins SoloPower from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), where for the last 27 years he carried out R&D and served as principal scientist and group manager. While there, he led the CIGS and CdTe solar cell research activities, which resulted in world-record power-conversion efficiencies of 19.9% and 16.5%, respectively.

Before NREL, Noufi was a senior scientist at Rockwell International Science Center, where he performed research on the photoelectrochemistry of semiconductors, metal oxide electrodeposition and photoelectrochemical solar cells.
