BTU International Inc., a North Billerica, Mass.-headquartered supplier of advanced thermal processing equipment to the alternative energy and electronics manufacturing markets, has formed a new business group for its alternative energy equipment business.
John J. McCaffrey Jr. has joined BTU as vice president of alternative energy, in charge of engineering and product development. Previously, he worked at Evergreen Solar, where he designed, built and operated its U.S. pilot and initial manufacturing facilities; Q Cells; and Daystar Technologies, a CIGS thin-film solar company, where he set up its pilot line for foil and led the initial design for its 25 MW glass manufacturing facility.
Douglas A. Lawson has joined BTU as vice president of alternative energy, in charge of marketing and business development. His major focus will be on business development for silicon- and thin-films-based applications for solar energy.
In addition to the creation of the alternative energy group, the company says it is building two new solar research and process application laboratories – one in Billerica, Mass., and another in Shanghai, China. These laboratories will be used to develop new solar process capabilities and provide an environment where customers can test and process their photovoltaic cells on BTU systems.
