enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, has been awarded a contract to develop, construct, own and operate a 1 MW solar photovoltaic array in an agreement with Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).
Located in southern Sacramento County, Calif., the ground-mounted, fixed-tilt solar array consists of approximately 14,000 First Solar modules and is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 600 homes. SMUD will purchase the project's output under a 20-year power purchase agreement and then sell to customers that have subscribed to SMUD's voluntary SolarShares program.
‘The end result of a tough competitive solicitation, this project is a testament to enXco's tenacious development group and competitive pricing with key suppliers,’ says Mark Tholke, regional development manager for enXco. ‘We look forward to bringing the project online according to the aggressive development and construction timeline requested by SMUD.’
enXco will begin construction soon and expects that the project will produce at full nameplate capacity within three months.
