Thompson Technology Industries Inc. (TTI) has developed a Floatovoltaic solar array – which couples solar power with water, preserving valuable acreage that would be lost with a ground-mounted PV array – for Napa Valley wine producer Far Niente. The system was installed by SPG Solar using solar panels from Sharp.
The installation comprises about 1,000 Sharp solar panels on pontoons floating on the winery's vineyard irrigation pond, along with another 1,300 panels located on land adjacent to the pond. The array generates 400 kW at peak output.
