Spain-based Abengoa has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) and secured financing for the 100 MW Xina Solar One parabolic trough concentrated solar power (CSP) facility in South Africa.
Xina Solar One will be Abengoa's third project in South Africa, along with 100 MW KaXu Solar One and 50 MW Khi Solar One, both of which are under construction.
Xina Solar One will supply electricity to Eskom, South Africa's power utility, under a 20-year PPA. The facility will have a five-hour thermal energy storage system using molten salt. Abengoa has a 40% ownership stake in the project.
