Salt Lake City-based Sustainable Power Group (sPower) has broken ground on its 22.5 MW Sierra Solar project in Lancaster, Calif.
sPower awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project to Rosendin Electric, which will install more than 250,000 First Solar photovoltaic modules in a fixed ground-mount array. The project has a 20-year power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison.
Sierra Solar is expected to begin commercial operation in September. The project is sPower's first in Los Angeles County.
‘The Sierra Solar approval process required significant time and effort from everyone involved,’ says Ryan Creamer, CEO of sPower. ‘We appreciate LA County's collaboration and expect to build on this first success going forward.’
