SkyPower, a Canada-based owner and developer of solar energy projects, has signed a $2.2 billion agreement with the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to develop 1 GW of solar projects in Kenya to be built in four phases over the next five years.
The agreement was signed in Nairobi, Kenya, at the sixth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit, according to SkyPower.
‘Kenya has become an African hub for innovation and entrepreneurship,’ says Kerry Adler, CEO and president of SkyPower. ‘SkyPower's solar projects will help Kenya realize its electrification goals, support the development of the country's renewable energy industry and help the development of strong communities.’
‘SkyPower's $2.2 billion investment will include 200 MW of fabrication and assembly facilities, as well as a commitment of $173 million toward education, training, and research and development,’ says Charles Cohen, SkyPower's executive vice president.
