PVOne LLC, a Shrewsbury, N.J.-based developer and financer of large-scale solar power generation systems, is involved in developing the largest photovoltaic (PV) array in Florida.
The 250 kW PV system will be located at Rothenbach Park in Sarasota County, Fla., on the site of the former Bee Ridge Landfill. Covering an area of 28,000 square feet, the system will use 1,200 PV panels and will connect directly to the distribution grid, the company says.
When the solar system begins operation (scheduled for second quarter of 2007), it will produce enough electricity to meet the needs of 50 homes per year and prevent 10,500 tons of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere over its operational life.
PVOne's role in the project was to negotiate the site lease with Sarasota County officials and obtain a green solar tag agreement for installation of the system. In addition, the company brought together industry and financial partners to develop the project under Florida's Sunshine Energy Program, a voluntary green power program offered to residential and commercial customers who want to support renewable energy generation.
PowerLight Corp., a subsidiary of SunPower Corp., will work with PVOne to deploy the solar power system and provide operation and maintenance services. Third-party financing will be used to finance the $2.5 million brightfield project.
