Thomas Babacan has been appointed a member of Oerlikon Group's executive board, as well as been named the company's chief operating officer. He will continue to serve as CEO of Oerlikon's vacuum division until a successor is appointed.
Babacan initiated a turnaround of Oerlikon's vacuum business in 2005 by investing in new products and efficient production plants, building up a new management team, reorientating the sales structure and gaining access to new markets. Since then, the segment has been enjoying above-average sales growth and a constantly increasing profit margin.
