XsunX Inc., an Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based developer of manufacturing systems and cell structures for solar energy, has submitted a grant response for project funding opportunities under the president's Advanced Energy Initiative, which is designed to promote thin film photovoltaics and systems integration through industry partnerships.

The XsunX grant response was prepared in conjunction with Sandia National Laboratories and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The purpose of the Solar America Initiative, which has a budget of $148 million, is to accelerate the development of advanced solar electric technologies by 2015.

‘The government subsystem program we responded to can fund half a project's cost, up to $8 million dollars,’ says Kurt Richard Laetz, XsunX's vice president of global sales and marketing. ‘Responding to this grant fits in with our existing business plan, which emphasizes the development of cost-effective building integrated photovoltaics, or BIPV applications, with partners from other industries such as the glass and glazing industries.’
