Pacific Power, a Portland, Ore.-headquartered electric utility, has chosen to install solar panels on the Bend Centennial Parking Plaza's rooftop and the Redmond Municipal Airport, Oregon, as part of its Blue Sky renewable energy program.
Pacific Power's customers can opt for 100% renewable energy for an additional $1.95 per 100 kWh through its Blue Sky program. A portion of the money is used for renewable energy projects, such as the two in Oregon. According to the company, Pacific Power has one of the most successful renewable energy programs in the country – about 25,000 Oregonians in Pacific Power's service area buy Blue Sky renewable energy, which represents nearly 5% of its customer base.
Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the recently completed Bend Centennial Parking Plaza – a four-level garage. The project is expected to be online by the end of 2007, the company says. At the Redmond Municipal Airport, installation of 220 photovoltaic solar panels on the new concourse is planned, along with an educational kiosk. Construction of the new concourse is currently underway.
