The U.S. Navy has signed an energy-savings performance contract (ESPC) with Johnson Controls to make the naval base in Guam more energy efficient and help reduce the base's overall environmental impact.
The project includes a large-scale photovoltaic power-generation system and energy-efficient air-conditioning systems. It is expected to reduce annual energy costs by $1.7 million, Johnson Controls says.
The energy conversion measures are expected to reduce the base's electricity consumption, with an estimated 3% coming from renewable energy sources.
