SolarCity, a provider of solar financing, design, installation, monitoring and related services, has announced the availability of its solar leasing option to customers of Anaheim Public Utilities (APU) in Orange County, Calif.
SolarCity says the lease option can make it possible for Anaheim customers to adopt solar power with zero money down and save money immediately, because the solar system typically reduces the customer's monthly electricity bill by a greater amount than the monthly lease payment. SolarLease includes installation, a performance guarantee, the SolarGuard Web-based monitoring and free repairs.
APU has set aggressive goals for renewable energy production, with plans to generate 20% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2015. SolarCity hopes that its leasing option can help the utility meet those goals.
