Ainsworth Inc. has broken ground on a 350 kW solar installation at St. Lawrence College's Kingston and Brockville, Ontario, campuses. The installation comprises a 250 kW rooftop system in Kingston and a 100 kW rooftop system in Brockville. It is estimated that the Kingston and Brockville projects will generate $200,000 and $80,000 annually for the college, respectively.
In addition, students enrolled in the college's Energy Systems Engineering program will be able to gather real-time solar data and learn how the effects of different tilt angles, flat versus sloped rooftops, different types of inverters and different geographic locations impact solar power generation.
Pending approval, the solar projects will operate through the Ontario Power Authority's feed-in-tariff program.
