U.K.-based Welborne Solar Ltd. has received approval for a 37 MW solar park it is proposing near Portsmouth and Winchester, U.K.
The Winchester City Council has passed a resolution to grant permission for the plans, put forward by Welborne Solar – a partnership between site owner Mark Thistlethwayte and solar developer Hive Energy.
‘We are committed to creating one of the U.K.'s largest solar parks, which will be almost invisible from public areas, will support local ecology, will increase biodiversity and will deliver much-needed green electricity into the Portsmouth area for the next 25 years,’ says Giles Redpath, CEO of Hive Energy. ‘We now look forward to progressing the scheme.’
The partnership hopes to build the park this summer and is currently seeking a company to provide engineering, procurement and construction services. Parties interested in bidding on the project are invited to contact Welborne Solar by email at solar@bucklandcapital.com.
