3S Swiss Solar Systems, a subsidiary of 3S Industries AG, has provided BIPV solar modules for an installation at Restaurant Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, located at an altitude of just under 400 meters. Never before has a building-integrated photovoltaic installation of this kind been commissioned at a comparable altitude in Europe, according to 3S Swiss Solar Systems.
The solar system, with an installed output of 22 kW, features 108 panels integrated on a surface area of about 200 square meters on the buildings façade. The harsh climate on the mountain, including permafrost and strong winds, required the development of special weatherproof solar modules, the company notes. High-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells from ersol were used in the module-manufacturing process.
