AC Transit, the public transportation authority for the Alameda-Contra Costa transit district in California, is installing a solar electric system at its bus yards and operational facilities in Hayward and Oakland. AC Transit estimates the new installation will generate 767,000 kW hours of power annually, an estaimated utility savings of $200,000 a year for the next 25 years.
The new system was designed and is being installed by SunPower Corp. of San Jose. Financing for the project is being covered by Pacific Gas & Electric, as part of the utility's California Self Generation Incentive Program, and San Francisco's MMA Renewable Ventures.
