Adhesives Research Debuts New Bonding Adhesives

Adhesives Research (AR) has launched new bonding adhesives that the company says can enhance the capabilities and performance of a variety of photovoltaic modules.

Specifically for use in flexible thin-film PV modules, AR's new moisture barrier pressure-sensitive adhesive transfer film technology – EL-92734 – forms strong, flexible bonds while providing moisture and oxygen barrier properties required for dependable encapsulation, according to the company.

An alternative to liquid encapsulating materials, EL-92734 is a hydrophobic adhesive with strong thermoxidative and ultraviolet stability. A benign, low-outgassing, non-corrosive and electrically clean adhesive, this pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) becomes active at 100 degrees C.

For encapsulation, the new dual-stage PSA/UV ARclear 90453 offers PV manufacturers an optically clear, unsupported transfer adhesive, the company adds. Supplied in a peel-and-stick format, the product provides the instant bonding properties of a pliable PSA. The second stage involves momentary exposure to UV light to quickly form a strong yet flexible bond.
