Aegis Solar Energy says it has completed a commercial solar thermal hot water installation at Family Pizza Restaurant & Grill in Colchester, Conn. The system will be the business' primary source of hot water, displacing the traditional propane hot water heater used by the restaurant.
Fifteen flat-plate solar collectors feed a 360-gallon storage tank. The hot water produced by the system will allow the restaurant to reduce its propane consumption by 1,350 gallons per year, for a savings of nearly $3,000, according to Aegis.
The solar thermal system was designed and installed by Aegis, and was funded, in part, by a grant from the state's Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority.
