Akeena Solar Inc., an installer and manufacturer of solar power systems, has promoted Gary Effren, currently chief financial officer, to president and promoted Margaret Randazzo, currently controller, to chief financial officer.
Prior to joining the company, Effren held various executive financial positions, including vice president of finance and chief financial officer at Knight Ridder Inc., a Fortune 500 media company and the second-largest newspaper company in the U.S.
Randazzo, a certified public accountant, began her career as a manager in the audit and business advisory division of Arthur Andersen LLP in Dallas. In 1996, she joined the Fort Worth Star-Telegram as a financial planning manager, and in 1998, she was named vice president and chief financial officer of the Star-Telegram.
In 2006, upon The McClatchy Co.'s acquisition of Knight Ridder, Randazzo was named president and publisher of The Modesto Bee and had oversight of the Merced Sun-Star. She served in that role through the end of 2008 prior to joining Akeena.
