Los Gatos, Calif.-based Akeena Solar, an installer and manufacturer of solar power systems, has made its Andalay AC solar panels available at 21 Lowe's stores in California. The products will be offered as part of the Lowe's Energy Center, which is designed to allow consumers to learn about energy use and create an individual energy plan.
‘The PC revolution in the computer industry occurred when new technology made PCs easy to use and affordable,’ explains Barry Cinnamon, CEO of Akeena Solar. ‘Likewise, with panels becoming plug-and-play appliances, the solar revolution has started. The availability of solar panels in Lowe's stores makes it easy for homeowners to go solar and is a big step toward getting solar on every sunny rooftop.’
Andalay AC panels feature integrated racking, wiring and grounding, reducing the overall parts count by 80% and protecting against breakdowns that could happen with ordinary DC power systems, Akeena Solar says. The panels also have built-in inverters that produce household AC power and are designed to allow installation of the the system without specialized training.
