American Electric Technologies Develops 1 MW 1,000 V Photovoltaic Inverter

Houston-based American Electric Technologies Inc. (AETI), a provider of power delivery products for the traditional and renewable energy industries, says it has received notification from TUV Rheinland that its 1 MW 1,00O V Integrated Solar Inversion Station (ISIS) has passed the solar inverter tests as outlined in UL 1741-2010.

As the U.S. utility-scale solar market develops, North American utilities and engineering, procurement and construction firms have attempted to move from 600 V solar project designs to 1,000 V designs for increased efficiency and lower costs. However, the lack of a certified 1 MW 1,000 V solar inverter has been a major hindrance to moving the industry to the next level, according to the company.

AETI says its ISIS product is now the first 1 MW integrated solar inversion station tested to UL 1741-2010 at 1,000 V. ISIS uses multi-tiered smart cooling architecture with liquid-cooled power electronics to deliver a low-tare-loss product, the company adds.
