Applied Materials Inc. has appointed Alexander Karsner to serve on its board of directors and as a member of the board's strategy committee.
Karsner served as assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy at the U.S. Department of Energy from March 2006 to August 2008. In that position, he managed a $1.72 billion federal applied science, research, development and deployment portfolio that promoted marketplace integration of renewable energy technologies. Prior to joining the DOE, Karsner served companies such as Enercorp LLC, Tondu Energy Systems and Wartsila Power Development.
