U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard have announced a collaborative agreement to research solar power, with the goal of cutting solar energy's costs to equal those of fossil-fuel sources within five years.
The Syndey Morning Herald reports that the Australian government plans to allocate $50 million AUD in its federal budget to renewable energy research this year. The Australian Solar Institute will investigate dual-junction PV devices, hot-carrier cells and high-temperature receivers.
