Solar Trust of America says its project development subsidiary, Solar Millennium LLC, has received unanimous approval from the California Energy Commission (CEC) to build and operate its 1,000 MW Blythe Solar Power Project in Riverside County. This would be the largest concentrating solar power (CSP) facility in the world, the company says.
The project received proposed CEC approval last month.
Having received formal approval from the California Energy Commission, the project must now secure a Record of Decision approving the project's right-of-way grant from the Federal Bureau of Land Management, which is expected this fall.
The company notes that it is also actively pursuing completion of financing with the U.S. Department of Energy loan-guarantee program for the first phase of the project, which represents approximately 500 MW of generating capacity.
