Bonfiglioli USA has been named as the supplier of utility-scale power conversion system solutions for the 170 MW Centinela solar power project near El Centro, Calif.

Fluor Corp., the EPC contractor for the project, will be integrating Bonfiglioli's RPS Station system. The 2 MVA power platform includes two 1 MVA modular inverter systems enclosed inside a pre-cast concrete container, and a 2 MVA medium-voltage step-up transformer.

The Centinela project will be built in two phases: 125 MW in phase one and 45 MW AC in phase two. San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) is purchasing the output under a 25-year power purchase agreement, and the power will be integrated into SDG&E's 230 kV transmission system. Construction has already begun.
