Southampton, Pa.-based plastic tubing manufacturer NewAge Industries has been awarded a $1 million solar energy program grant from Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development.
The money will help fund the purchase and installation of a 1 MW rooftop solar panel system that will contribute more than 50% of NewAge's energy needs, allowing the company to save energy costs while pursuing green initiatives.
NewAge is partnering with Borrego Solar Systems Inc. for the installation. The project has already begun, with the first step of upgrading the facility's roof to support over 4,000 solar panels, NewAge Industries says. The panels will create an array covering approximately three-quarters of the rooftop on the 244,000 square-foot building.
The project is expected to be completed during the first quarter of this year. The expected project costs are $4.1 million.
