BrightSource Energy Inc. has dropped its plan to build a 5,130-acre solar power plant in the eastern Mojave Desert.
The plant would have been located on lands that Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., is seeking to transform into a national monument. The Los Angeles Times reports that BrightSource's plan to develop on lands known as Broadwell Dry Lake, which lies within Sleeping Beauty Valley, was of particular concern.
The company's other solar projects in the area are expected to continue as planned.
