California City Deploys 1 MW Solar Installation

0

The City of Atwater, Calif., has dedicated a 1.1 MW solar power system at an unused former landfill site adjacent to the city's new wastewater treatment plant.

Under a contract with Siemens Building Technologies, the new array enables the city to purchase electricity under a power purchase agreement at a fixed and discounted rate without any capital investment. Siemens operates and maintain the system, and Atwater will purchase the electricity the system generates at a guaranteed rate for 20 years.Â

The solar array uses solar modules and tracking systems from Solaria Corp., based in Fremont, Calif. The modules track the sun throughout the day to maximize energy capture. The system is expected to generate 2,221,738 kWh of energy annually.
