Two companies are taking the name of Maryland's Windy Ridge Park literally, with a plan to install small wind turbines for generating electricity to power the neighboring town of Mount Airy.
The Associated Press reports that a pair of renewable energy firms in Maryland – Freedom Energy Solutions in Westminster and Grey Goes Green in Middletown – are putting together an ‘environmental campus’ for the 88-acre park. Tom Williams, CEO of Freedom Energy, states that small wind turbines and solar panels can provide electricity for the approximately 6,200 people living in Mount Airy. Excess energy, Williams adds, can be sold at a profit.
The two companies estimate the project will cost several million dollars to complete. A full proposal will be presented to the Mount Airy town government before the end of the year.
