LS Power has received unanimous approval from the El Centro, Calif., board of supervisors for a conditional-use permit to build the $600 million, 175 MW Centinela solar project in the area of Highway 98 and Brockman Rd., near Mount Signal.
The Imperial Valley Press reports that the approval followed a lengthy public hearing. LS Power Vice President Eric Crawford told the board that the project will cover 1,600 acres and create 300 construction jobs. The 175 MW initial project is scheduled for construction in the second quarter of 2012. An additional 100 MW may be added later.
