The Jurupa Unified School District in California and Chevron Energy Solutions have entered a contract to develop a 2.7 MW solar and energy efficiency project that is projected to save the district $34 million.
The project will add solar photovoltaic panels mounted on parking shade structures at nine campuses, as well as replace 400 air conditioning units and upgrade more than 21,000 lighting fixtures.
Chevron Energy Solutions will design and engineer the project, and will install, operate, maintain and guarantee performance. Chevron will also provide professional development for teachers, curriculum materials and hands-on experiments.
A ground breaking event to celebrate the implementation of the project was held last week.
