The 100 MW Amanecer Solar CAP plant in Copiapo, Chile, has been inaugurated in a ceremony attended by President Michelle Bachelet. The project was developed, built and interconnected by SunEdison Inc.
The $250 million solar photovoltaic facility provides electricity to the CAP Group, an iron and steel producer, under an off-take agreement. Located in the Atacama Desert, the 250-acre plant has more than 310,000 PV modules. The plant is expected to generate approximately 270 GWh of electricity per year.
