China-Based Manufacturer Sets Up Polysilicon Plant

Tianwei Sichuan Silicon Co. Ltd. has initiated a 3,000-ton-per-annum (TPA) polysilicon project in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, China. The $365 million project is in the Xinjin Industrial Park and expected to be finished in 2010.

Baoding Tianwei Baobian Electric Co. Ltd. holds 51% of Tianwei's $129.5 million in capital, and Sichuan Provincial Investment Group Co. Ltd. and Sichuan Minjiang River Irrigation Hydropower Co. Ltd. hold 35% and 14% of the shares, respectively.

In addition to the new Chengdu project, Baobian will invest $301 million in another polysilicon project in Leshan City, Sichuan, which will also have a capacity of 3,000 TPA.
