China Joining International Renewable Energy Agency

China's government has announced that the country will join the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) as a full member.

According to IRENA, this represents a milestone in international efforts to double the share of renewable energy worldwide by 2030. China is considered a world leader in technology manufacturing and the use of wind, solar and hydropower. The country is the world's largest energy producer, with total installed electrical power generation capacity of 1,140 GW.

IRENA currently has 160 participating states and aims for universal membership.
