China Sunergy Co. Ltd., a specialized solar cell and module manufacturer, says its solar modules have passed a potential induced degradation (PID) test conducted by TUV Rheinland Group.
The PID test assesses potential loss of power output of solar modules under severe conditions of high voltage, high temperature and high humidity. In recent years, the continuous degradation of solar modules, especially those exposed to humidity, has become a concern among project owners, China Sunergy says.
Under the PID test conditions, China Sunergy's modules were exposed to 1,000 V of bias voltage for 96 hours at a temperature of 60 degrees C and relative humidity of 85%. In order to pass this test, the maximum degradation of power output between initial and final measurement could not exceed 5%. China Sunergy says its modules showed a 0.1% degradation.
