Project Navigator Ltd. (PNL), via its solar power projects development group, PVNavigator (PVN), has entered into a lease option agreement with California's San Bernardino County to evaluate and explore the development of a solar photovoltaic facility at the Barstow Sanitary Landfill, located in Barstow, Calif.
The facility will be between 10 MW and 20 MW in size, and the power is expected to be sold to Southern California Edison to assist the utility in meeting its renewable portfolio goals. PVN will manage all phases of the Barstow PV solar project, including the design, permitting, financing and implementation.
‘This project moves us one step closer to our goals of developing renewable, solar energy solutions on brownfields and urban-located, closed landfills that are otherwise deemed as unusable land,’ says Ian Webster, president of PNL.
This is the second lease option agreement that PNL has entered into with San Bernardino County this year; the first one was for a 2 MW development located at the Big Bear Sanitary Landfill. PNL will now work on obtaining an interconnect application, California Environmental Quality Act compliance, and power marketing.
