Concentrated Photovoltaic Solar Plant Opens In Australia

0

Australia-based Solar Systems, a subsidiary of Silex Systems Ltd., has officially opened its 1.5 MW Mildura solar demonstration facility. The concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) power plant, billed as the largest of its type in Australia, has been connected to the national grid under a power purchase agreement with Diamond Energy.

Solar Systems says that if the 40-dish CPV facility operates successfully during its demonstration period – and if finances allow – there are plans to expand Mildura to a 100 MW facility incorporating approximately 2,000 dishes. The company says it expects construction on such an expansion to begin in late 2014.
