Consarc Corp., an Inductotherm Group company, has completed the installation and commissioning of its pilot/production ElectroMagnetic Cold Crucible (EMCC) furnace at its world headquarters in Rancocas, N.J.

The EMCC furnace is designed to produce multicrystalline silicon ingots at a fraction of the cost of traditional directional solidification furnaces, according to the company. Following commissioning, Consarc has begun beta melt testing in the new furnace.

The furnace will be capable of casting a 3,000 kg multicrystalline ingot in approximately 72 hours, according to Bill Marino, president of Consarc.
