In an effort to bring up to 100 MW of solar-generated electricity to San Antonio, utility CPS Energy is currently in the process of examining vendor candidates, the San Antonio Business Journal reports.
CPS Energy's manager of wholesale power marketing, John Bonnin, told the journal that the utility hopes to complete its list of bidders by early next month, with the goal of signing one or more contracts by spring 2009. He says solar-generated electricity may reach utility customers in late 2010 or early 2011. Bids were received from both U.S.- and Europe-based companies, he notes. Suppliers will install, own and operate the solar power plants, and then sell the output on a wholesale basis to CPS Energy, the report says.
