DEGERenergie, a Horb am Neckar, Germany-based provider of tracking systems, plans to deliver 2,660 TOPtraker 8.5 units to Martifer Solar Italy, a subsidiary of the Martifer Group. The trackers will be installed in Agrigento, in Sicily, where a 3 MW solar installation is currently being developed. The plant, which will be owned by Amplio Solar, is scheduled to come online in early 2010.
In order to comply with local environmental regulations, the tracking systems will not be mounted on concrete foundations, notes DEGERenergie. Instead, the units will be anchored into the ground using specially designed steel constructions.
