Del Webb says it will include solar installations, along with other energy-efficient features, at its two new-home Sun City communities in the Phoenix metro area. The standard features represent the largest new-home solar offering in the state and were added in response to Baby Boomers' desire to be green and reduce the overall operational costs of their homes, according to the company.
The new homes will include a 1.8 kW roof-integrated solar PV power system by SunPower that blends seamlessly into the roof. The solar panels are on display on a home in each community's model pavilion.
In addition to reducing overall operational cost of the home, the standard features will reduce the HERS (Home Energy Rating Score) value to below 50, according to Del Webb.
