Ontario-based installer Solar & Alternative Technology Corp. (S.A.T.) is working with module manufacturer Soventix Canada Inc. to develop a 7.9 MW rooftop solar photovoltaic system at a Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd. distillery in Pike Creek, Ont.
The developers of the project, which will be build under the province's feed-in tariff program, have entered into a 20-year lease agreement to rent the roof surfaces at Pike Creek. Power from the installation will tie into utility Hydro One's electric grid.
The companies note that the project's due-diligence process included assessing the building's structural-load capacities; the project's installation timeline; health and safety risks; and insurance issues.
