Apollo Solar, a company specializing in the design and manufacture of power electronics for solar energy systems, has been contracted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to provide development of less expensive, more efficient technologies to enhance the value of solar systems to home and business owners. The contract consists of three phases, totaling $4.1 million. Apollo Solar has been awarded the first phase.
The product development work is part of the Solar Energy Grid Integration Systems (SEGIS) Program, which is administered and managed by Sandia National Laboratories. The DOE recruited Apollo Solar to develop more cost-efficient products with greater energy production – all of which are integral to the Solar America Initiative, which aims to bring about solar grid parity by 2015.
