The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released its final rules for its SunShot Prize: Race to 7-Day Solar competition.

Eligible teams will compete in two contests over 18 months to implement their methods to cut the time from permit approval through interconnection for the installation of photovoltaic power systems. The goal is to achieve this in seven days for small PV systems up to 100 kW or seven weeks for large PV systems up to 1 MW.

During the contest period, the teams will demonstrate their innovations at-scale by deploying a minimum of 10 MW for the small system contest or 15 MW for the large system contest.

The competition offers a total of $10 million in cash awards to the best teams.

Letters of intent to compete are due before March 22. Prize competition rules and eligibility requirements are available here.
