Dominion Virginia Power will install an 800 kW rooftop photovoltaic system at the Prologis Concorde Distribution Center in Sterling, Va. The system will consist of more than 3,000 solar panels deployed on two adjacent buildings.
The Prologis installation is part of Dominion's Solar Partnership program, where the company leases rooftop or ground space at commercial, industrial or public facilities for installation of solar panels. All the electricity generated in the $2.5 million project will flow to the electric grid for use by Dominion Virginia Power customers.
North Carolina-based PowerSecure is performing engineering, procurement and construction services. Construction is scheduled to begin this month. The panels are expected to be fully installed and operational in October.
