Eaton has launched its Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System, a microgrid management system designed for military forward operating bases.
The new system can enable the operation of independent generators as a demand-managed microgrid. Eaton says on initial testing at U.S. military base Fort Devens, the systems reduced fuel consumption in excess of 30%.
The Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System manages the output of generators to meet current demands, rather than engaging all generators at all times. The demand-managed system can be further enhanced with optional solar and energy storage connectivity for integration into renewable energy microgrid installations.
