EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE), one of the largest renewable energy developers in North America, has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison (SCE) for the 111.2 MW AC Valentine Solar Project.
According to EDF RE, the project will deliver clean electricity to SCE beginning in December 2019.
Sited on approximately 1,260 acres of private land in the Mojave Desert, located in Kern County, Calif., the Valentine Solar Project is adjacent to EDF RE’s Catalina Solar 2 Project, which is also contracted with SCE. Valentine Solar will comprise horizontal single-axis tracking solar PV technology generating power equivalent to avoiding more than 225,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.
“EDF Renewable Energy is pleased to once again partner with Southern California Edison to bring affordable solar energy to SCE’s customers through the Valentine Solar Project,” says Dai Owen, director of power marketing. “As solar energy becomes increasingly cost-competitive against other forms of generation, we continue to expand our solar portfolio to meet the growing appetite of our utility partners and corporate clients for clean, renewable energy.”
