EMCORE Consolidates Terrestrial CPV Business Into Suncore JV

0

EMCORE Corp., a provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the solar power and fiber-optic markets, says it has consolidated its terrestrial concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) systems engineering and development efforts into its joint venture, Suncore Photovoltaics.

The agreement, which is still subject to closing conditions, is intended to allow EMCORE to focus its efforts on multi-junction solar cell technology for
space and terrestrial power applications.

In late 2010, EMCORE formed the Suncore Photovoltaics joint venture with San'an Optoelectronics Co. Ltd. to engage in manufacturing and business development in China. EMCORE and Suncore will now consolidate intellectual property and development efforts for both ground-mount and rooftop terrestrial CPV products, including key engineering, and sales and marketing personnel, into a wholly owned subsidiary of Suncore in the U.S.

EMCORE notes that it will continue to own all of its intellectual property related to solar cell technology and maintain investment activities to advance CPV cell performance.
