Energy Conversion Devices Moving Assembly Steps To Mexico

0

Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (ECD), a manufacturer of thin-film flexible solar laminate products for the building-integrated and commercial rooftop markets, says it will shift certain final assembly operations from its Auburn Hills, Mich., campus to its Tijuana, Mexico, facility.

The company will continue to manufacture its solar cells at the Auburn Hills campus. The change is expected to go into effect this fall, eliminating approximately 140 jobs at that campus. Employees affected by these actions will receive severance and outplacement, the company adds.

ECD also plans to add personnel to its Tijuana facility, including rehiring personnel who had previously been terminated.
